Demo against hospital rape case

Anti-Harassment groups will demonstrate outside diabetes institute where a man raped six women while they were under anaesthetic

Various groups will raise awareness of a multiple rape case by demonstrating outside the National Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute on Wednesday.

Six women were raped while under anaesthetic by a man employed as a cleaner at the institute.

Ayman Nagy, founder of the Movement against Harassment and one of the organisers of the demonstration said: “This case emerged last week but there has been very little media attention. We are doing this to raise awareness.”

According to Nagy the case only came to light after a doctor from the institute went to the police.

Nagy said: “Only the last woman has come forward. She said that she was aware of what was going on but was unable to anything about it.”

Following police interviews with the woman who came forward, as well as the doctor, it emerged that a total of six women had been sexually assaulted.

Nagy says that the management of the institute were aware of the situation but only told the cleaner not to do it again.

Nagy said: “The management should have to appear in court as well. We are calling for the highest possible punishment for the cleaner.”

The management of the institute were unavailable for comment.

The demonstration will take place in absolute silence to respect the patients in the institute, reported Nagy. The event page on Facebook also said that political banners of any sort are forbidden.

Currently seven groups will participate in the demonstration including the Movement against Harassment and Harassmap.
