Ahmed Abdel Hafiz, president of Cairo’s second Metro line, discussed plans by the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation to introduce four new air conditioned trains to Cairo’s Shubra-Giza line.

He stated that the company was currently putting the finishing touches on the new trains, with additional tests set to take place after the installation of electronic traffic signals along the line itself.

He said making the new trains operational was just the first step towards eventually providing all trains on both Cairo’s first and second metro lines with air conditioning, a step which would help improve the quality of service provided to passengers.

He went on to say that the company had purchased a number of new trains from the Japanese company Mitsubishi at the beginning of last year at a cost of EGP 320m, funded by money from the state’s public treasury. Those trains purchased were then sent to train workshops in Shubra to equip them with electronic traffic signals before using them along Cairo’s second line.
