Qatar’s third and fourth liquefied gas shipments to Egypt left the Ras Lafan port on Thursday, in accordance with directives by the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Both nations have stated their intention to guarantee the transport of Qatar’s fifth shipment of liquefied natural gas to Egypt, which is expected to be sent this September.

Recent political developments in Egypt following the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi have negatively impacted bilateral ties with Qatar, which was previously the most generous donor to the cash-strapped nations since Morsi’s election in June 2012.

The recent tension has raised concerns of the gas-rich state suspending its fuel aid, amid shortages that have crippled Egypt’s industries and power stations.
