Free Egyptians party announces merge with Democratic Front party

There are other parties which would like to merge with the Free Egyptians Party: Wagih

The Free Egyptians party announced through a statement Tuesday afternoon that it is merging with the Democratic Front party. The newly-formed partisan body will go by the name “The Free Egyptians Party”.

In the statement, the party’s spokesman Shehab Wagih said that other information about the merge will be announced in a press conference to be held soon.

Wagih added: “There are new suggestions and other parties that would like to merge with the Free Egyptians party, these suggestions are being studied and their results will be announced soon.”

Wagih stated that the newly formed partisan body’s main priority is winning a majority seating in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Wagih told Daily News Egypt: “We will merge with parties sharing our ideals and ideology,” and that “Our party is working on a strong alliance that can represent the Liberal parties of Egypt.”

The Free Egyptians Party, a liberal organisation, was founded in April 2011 and gained 15 seats in the 2011 parliamentary elections under the umbrella of the Egyptian Bloc.

The Free Egyptians Party is strongly affiliated with Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris, being one of those who announced the establishment of the party on 3 April 2011.

The Democratic Front Party, which is also liberal, was founded in 2007 by former National Democratic Party high-ranking member Osama Al-Ghazali Harb and constitutional expert Yehia El-Gamal. The party failed to secure any seats in the former parliamentary elections.
