Al-Ahly SC ‘well prepared’ for fifth Club World Cup campaign

The Egyptian team defeats Maghreb Association Sportive de Fez 2-1 in a friendly match, leading up to the championship's quarterfinal with Guangzhou Evergrande

Al-Ahly SC showed “readiness” for their FIFA Club World Cup campaign after defeating Moroccan side Maghreb Association Sportive de Fez at home in a 2-1 in a friendly match on Sunday.

Al-Ahly scored the first goal in the 34th minute when striker Emad Meteb scored inside the penalty box with an elegant back heel assist from Mohamed Abu Trika.

Abu Trika went on to secure Al-Ahly’s lead, just four minutes latter in the 38th minute, with a sly shot from the right side of the penalty box.

Moroccan striker Al-Waly Ibrahim scored Fez’s first goal late in the game with a penalty shot in the 88th minute.

Al-Ahly is preparing for their Saturday game against Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande in the Club World Cup quarterfinal.

Currently Al-Ahly has an unmatched record with five notable performances in the Club World Cup, which is a record only matched by New Zealand team Auckland City.

Currently Al-Ahly’s greatest success in the tournament was claiming the bronze medal in the 2006 championship in Japan.

Should Al-Ahly secure a victory against Guangzhou they will face German titans Bayern Munich.

The championship, which is held in Morocco from 11 to 21 December, gathers the champions of Continental federations as well as the host team African Champions, Raja Casablanca.

Al-Ahly qualified for the championship after defeating their South African counterparts Orlando Pirates 3-1 in aggregate points last November in the CAF Champions League final.
