Computer and Software Department to hold “IT competitiveness” workshop

More than 100 local companies will attend

More than 100 local companies will participate in a workshop Sunday organised by the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce Federation and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) to raise awareness about local and global competitiveness.

Egypt ranked 118th out of 148 countries on the World Economic Forum’s 2013-2014 Global Competitiveness Index, dropping from 107th  place in 2012-2013, which included 144 countries only.

During the workshop, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce’s Computer and Software Department, will review the chamber’s previous projects, such as helping 50 Egyptian companies participate in technology-related expos in Germany, Hong Kong and China,  and discuss future initiatives to be implemented over the next five years, said Khalil Hassan, head of the Computer and Software Department.

The biggest challenge that these companies face is “to receive the needed support that will assist to compete globally,” he said.

In December, the Computer and Software Department in the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce Federation, the Chamber of Information Technology and Etisal Association signed a trilateral cooperation protocol in an effort to better serve Egypt’s information industry.

The protocol offers members of the three entities rafts of developmental programmes, which will help increase their competitive edge, revitalise the domestic market and introduce new regional and international markets.
