A body butter can be the one thing standing between your skin and ultimate ruin, especially with the damaging effects unstable weather can have on the skin. Bodylicious, a new startup, is trying to prevent dermatological ruin by providing customers with handmade, natural body butters and scrubs. We contacted Randa Makhlouf, founder of Bodylicious, for more information.
“Bodylicious was founded in 2012 when I finally decided to put all my thoughts into action. I started a small in-house workshop, I personally hand make all my products. For the first year or so, I had solely concentrated on body scrubs, and I have recently introduced my second wave of products, body butters, and they are doing very well so far,” she said.
Makhlouf explained that her interest in spas was the main motivator for Bodylicious. She also found that the experience was lacking something. “I always wished there could be a product that was healthy, natural and pleasantly scented, with a nice color and creative packaging. Natural products that I used were always limited to a scent or two, lacked fun and color. So I thought of working out some recipes that were very premium and healthy for the skin, but do not lack the enjoyable qualities of commercial products,” Makhlouf explained.
She spent her time researching and testing the products on willing friends and family.
Makhlouf promises that all the ingredients that go into Bodylicious products are natural. “I use extra virgin organic olive oil, fine sugar for scrubs and natural coco butter and shea butter, for the body butter. I inject pure liquid vitamin E in all my products, since it’s a healthy skin essential. I use food coloring and natural fragrances to finish up my products. Proudly, Bodylicious is a purely Egyptian brand; I buy all my ingredients locally,” she said.
As someone who works in marketing and advertising, Makhlouf is always conducting market research and surveying customers. “I stay aware with all dynamics in the cosmetics industry and through talks and discussions I always register all insights I hear from people’s daily experiences, challenges, preferences and needs with regards to skin care and always capitalise on that when planning for and enhancing my products.”
As for her most famous products, Makhlouf said that women usually prefer the peach, vanilla and mint body scrubs, while men usually go for mint, whit musk and green apple.
