Student arrested in possession of weapons

Ain Shams student allegedly used weapons during marches

A 19 year-old student at Ain Shams University was arrested for possession of weapons, which he allegedly used in marches organised in support of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The student was found in possession of two firearms, bullets, and a mask, state-run MENA reported. The student allegedly confessed to possessing the weapons with the intention of using them against security forces during marches supporting the Brotherhood.

The Brotherhood has repeatedly said that it condemns of all forms of violence. Abdulla El-Haddad from the Brotherhood’s London Press Office told the Daily News Egypt last month that the Brotherhood will continue to reject violence.

Ever since the ouster of former president and Muslim Brotherhood politician Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, Brotherhood leading figures and members have been the subject to an arrest campaign and have put on trial on a wide range of charges.

The group was designated a terrorist organisation by the Egyptian government last December. Its activities were previously banned by a court in September 2013.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party, was ordered to be dissolved by a top court in August.
