13 Egyptians kidnapped in Libya

Kidnappings follow the killing of an Egyptian family by extremist groups

13 Egyptian Christians were kidnapped in Libya early Saturday morning, a researcher at the Egyptian Commission of Rights and Freedoms said.

Islamic extremist militia groups stormed at dawn a residential complex in Sirte city, west of the Libyan capital Tripoli, housing a number of Egyptian Christians. They abducted 13 Egyptians, taking them to an unknown location, reported state-owned Al-Ahram.

All Egyptians are from Samallout, in the governorate of Minya.

The incident comes two days after the kidnapping of seven other Christians who were on their way back to Egypt.

Furthermore, last week, an Egyptian doctor, his wife and his daughter were killed in Sirte.

Another Egyptian citizen was shot dead in the same city after engaging in an argument with two armed men in September.

The Libyan government has announced an open call to join the Libyan army on Friday to face extremist militia after an attack by a jihadist group that killed 14 military officers in the south of Libya.
