Armed ‘criminal’ killed in Imbaba police station attack

Policeman injured in the attack

An armed man was killed outside a police station in Giza in an exchange of fire with the station’s security forces.

Egyptian policemen stand guard outside at a polling station during the second day of voting on a new constitution on January 15, 2014 in the Nasr City district of the Egyptian capital, Cairo. Egyptians resumed voting in the constitutional referendum, with turnout expected to hold the key to a likely presidential bid by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi after clashes killed nine the previous day. The man with a “dangerous criminal record” fired at the policemen with a shotgun, state-run Al-Ahram reported.

The fire fight resulted in the injuring of a policeman and killing of the armed assailant, who died on the way to hospital.

The Giza Security Investigations unit stated that the killed man had a criminal record of thuggery and theft.
