Detained photojournalist Esraa El-Taweel received a renewed detention until investigation on 28 June, after  spending over two weeks in forced disappearance.

El-Taweel stood before state security prosecution on Wednesday but was not put under investigation, according to lawyer Halim Henish.

“There is no information as to what charges she is accused over, or who is involved in the case along with her,” Henish said.

She was seen in an Al-Qanater Prison detention cell 16 days after her disappearance, Freedom for the Brave campaign said Tuesday.

El-Taweel, Suhaib Saad, and Omar Mohamed had gone missing on 1 June at approximately 9.30pm from Maadi, after going out for dinner and horseback riding. Their families said they received notice that security forces had arrested around 150 people from Maadi that day.

On Tuesday, the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) invited the families of the disappeared to report on the cases. The council received 55 reports of cases of forced disappearances.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Monitor reported 44 cases of forced disappearances in May. The organisation expressed “extreme worry” at the degree to which this phenomenon is increasing in Egypt.
