Twitter stops 140-character limit for Direct Messages

Micro-blogging site updated rules for sending and receiving Direct Message four months ago

The 140-character limit in Twitter’s messaging tool, Direct Messages, has been removed starting from 12 August, Twitter announced in a blog post on Wednesday.

Direct Messages (DMs) allow Twitter users to have a private conversation outside of the usual public experience on the online timeline.

“Today’s change is another big step towards making the private side of Twitter even more powerful and fun,” the micro-blogging website said in its blog post.

Earlier in April, Twitter made some changes to certain Direct Messages settings, to allow users to receive messages from anyone, rather than just their followers. This runs in addition to a new Direct Message button on profile pages running through Android and iPhone devices.
