Ministry of Religious Endowments counters recent Brotherhood statements

“Concealing Muslim Brotherhood crimes is betrayal of the nation,” says ministry

The Ministry of Religious Endowments strongly criticised recent Muslim Brotherhood statements saying that concealing Muslim Brotherhood crimes is considered a betrayal of the nation, in an official statement on Monday.

“After the Muslim Brotherhood group was exposed, calling for riots and vandalism, and walking in the footprints of Al-Qaeda and IS, hiding their crimes is no longer tolerable,” the ministry said.

A Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated group, called “Legitimacy authority for Muslim Brotherhood Group”, issued a report on Saturday saying that it is religiously legal to retaliate for the casualties. They also described the current regime as infidels, and should be fought and got rid of.

In response, Egypt’s prominent Sunni institution Dar Al-Ifta said: “Those statements are invalid and they try to manipulate religious texts to serve their goal of putting Egypt into the hands of the Islamic State (IS).”

Following the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013, the Ministry of Religious Endowments has been engaged in the state’s “war against terrorism”. It has stepped up further measures to renew religious speech, commenting on ongoing events and unifying prayer speeches across mosques.

In its speeches, the ministry has described protestors as “terrorists”. It has also taken further measures to ban preachers who are suspected of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood.
