Egypt to host ‘The Future of Energy in Egypt’ forum

Participants are meeting in response to Future Energy Corporation's call to develop a roadmap that will transform Egypt into one of the top five energy exporters in the Middle East by 2030

Cairo is about to host the most important event of the energy industry this year “The Future of Energy in Egypt”, a gathering of some of the most influential business and government figures in the country. Also in attendance at the forum, which aims to achieve some ambitious goals including turning the tide on Egypt’s increasing reliance on energy imports, will be global experts from the energy industry.

As such, participants are meeting in response to Future Energy Corporation’s call to develop a roadmap that will transform Egypt into one of the top five energy exporters in the Middle East by 2030.

This roadmap entails large cuts to the country’s petroleum consumption through upgrades to the transportation infrastructure, and increases in the efficiency of power plants and oil refineries. This comes in addition to increases in natural gas production. Moreover, almost half of the exports will come from electricity generated from solar and wind power plants, in addition to solar technology exports.

Future Energy Corporation’s vision is very bold and ambitious given that Egypt is currently an energy importer. The country, however, does have immense renewable energy potential and natural gas reserves, which are yet to be capitalised on. Ambition is a quality that is not strange to Future Energy Corporation.

The Egyptian developer of renewable energy infrastructure projects was founded in 2009, and has managed to quickly grow to a global player with subsidiaries in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean in a short period of time. Participants include a number of current and former ministers and governors, with Alexandria Governor Hany El-Messiry being one of the early supporters of the conference. The conference will also see the participation of a number of influential businessmen, including Naguib Sawiris, Raouf Ghabbour, Hisham El-Khazindar, and a number of CEOs from some of the leading companies in the country.

“With the Egyptian power sector open for private investment for the first time in 20 years, this is a great time to shape the national energy agenda in the right direction,” said Sherif Abdel Messih, CEO of Future Energy Corporation. “We are looking to transform Egypt into a major regional energy hub, and shall present the road map to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi when it’s complete.”

The event is taking place between 31 August and 1 September  2015 in Cairo. More information can be found on the event website: http://futureofenergyegypt.com/
