National Security officer Major Ahmed Al-Refaie died Saturday due to injuries from a blast that took the lives of six policemen Thursday in Giza, raising the death toll to 10.
The explosion caused a residential building to collapse in Al-Lebiny neighbourhood in Giza’s Al-Haram Street, injuring 15: one policeman and 14 citizens.
“Islamic State” (IS) claimed it planted the explosive devices in anticipation of a police raid.
However, the ministry’s statement said the raid targeted the building specifically after learning that there were explosive devices created there by specialised committees of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.
However, later on, the Revolutionary Punishment group also claimed responsibility for the explosion. It said in a statement that it was a suicide operation as members of the group were present in the apartment.
