Cairo grants temporary licences to auto showrooms until launch of “Auto City”

Fine of EGP 1,000 per day on illegal showrooms, says Ayman

The governorate of Cairo is studying granting temporary licenses to auto showrooms in Cairo until the launch of the Auto Showrooms City on an area of 25 acres in Katameya, Governor of Cairo Galal Mustafa Saeed said.

Deputy Governor of Cairo Maj. Gen. Mohamed Ayman told Daily News Egypt the transfer of auto showrooms from central Cairo to Katameya will contribute to easing traffic in the streets and pavements surrounding the showrooms, as well as limiting violations and fines.

Auto showrooms must keep to their allocated space to be granted temporary licenses. The governor has imposed a fine of EGP 1,000 per day on the showrooms violating these rules, Ayman said.

Vice Chairman of Abu Hetta Auto Trade Nashat Abu Hetta urged the governorate of Cairo to reconsider providing adequate space for auto showrooms and the period of usufruct of land in the new city. The governorate should discuss with the Chambers of Commerce and auto divisions regarding the rules of the new city.

Saeed previously announced the establishment of an auto city and market along the Cairo-Ain Sukhna motorway as an alternative to Nasr City’s market. The new city will have its own documentation and services office in an attempt to achieve liquidity of traffic in Cairo.

The governor revealed the plan for the new auto market, to be established on an area of 30 acres along the Ain Sukhna motorway, will include a 2,600 space parking lot with a complete range of services such as banks, a documentation office, maintenance stations, spare parts stores, cafes, as well as entry and exit electronic gates.

He also reviewed the establishment of a comprehensive auto showrooms city next to the new market on an area of 25 acres: a two storey building integrated into a hill with a glass interface with space to store cars as well as a complete range of services for traders and citizens.
