Free Egyptians Party to run for vacant parliamentary seat

Elections to take place in April after Tawfik Okasha’s expulsion from parliament

The Free Egyptians Party (FEP) announced Sunday its member Mohamed Saleh will be competing in parliamentary elections over one vacant seat as a result of the expulsion of former MP Tawfik Okasha from the parliament last Wednesday.

Saleh submitted his candidature application for the Talkha constituency in Daqahleya, where elections are to take place. However, according to FEP’s spokesperson Shehab Waguih, he had been dismissed over an issue with the required documents.

Saleh, in charge of the Higher Education committee inside the party, is running for the seat after the Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC) announced Sunday that it will begin receiving applications from potential candidates from 8 to 18 March, after which elections will be held on 15 and 16 April outside Egypt and on 16 and 17 April inside Egypt.
