Etisalat Misr ordered to pay Orange EGP 285.1m for interconnection fees

Orange Egypt added that Etisalat Misr should pay Orange the EGP 285.19m in addition to delaying the 2% interest per year, and should also commit to paying all the arbitration costs

Orange Egypt (formerly Mobinil) said in a statement that the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) ordered Etisalat Misr to pay EGP 285.19m in a dispute over interconnection fees between the two companies.

Orange Egypt added that Etisalat Misr should pay Orange the EGP 285.19m in addition to delaying the 2% interest per year, and should also commit to paying all the arbitration costs.

Orange Egypt filed an arbitration suit against Etisalat Misr in front of CRCICA to compel the latter to pay interconnection variation fees. The fees claimed by Orange originally amounted to EGP 300m, which was valued at EGP 418m with interest, according to prices stipulated in the interconnection agreement between both companies.

Neither Orange nor Etisalat could be reached for comment on the ruling.

Orange Egypt’s clients total 33 million users, making it the second largest mobile services operator in Egypt after Vodafone Egypt. Etisalat Misr comes in third, with 22 million users.
