4.3% increase in Egyptian families using computers in 2015: CAPMAS

21.9% increase in internet use at home


 

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a report on the most important indicators for information and communication technology (ICT) in Egypt. The report showed that 9.7 million families owned computers at the end of 2015 compared to 9.3 million families in 2014, an increase of 4.3%.

The number of families who owned televisions reached 20.18 million in 2015 compared to 19.8 million in 2014, an increase of 1.9%.

The internet use index showed the number of family members using internet at home reached 23.04 million individuals in 2015 compared to 18.9 million in 2014, an increase of 21.9%.

The report added the number of family members who use internet at educational institutions reached 13.89 million individuals in 2015 compared to 10.8 million in 2014, up by 28.61%. In addition, the number of family members using internet to search for information about goods and services reached 4.66 million individuals in 2015 compared to 3.7 million in 2014, a 25.94% increase.

The number of family members using internet to get information from government agencies reached 3.94 million individuals in 2015 compared to three million individuals in 2014, with an increase of 31.3%. The number of family members using internet to get information about health services reached 8.58 million individuals in 2015 compared to 7.13 million individuals in 2014, up 20.33%.

The number of family members using internet to send or receive e-mails reached 18.79 million individuals in 2015 compared to 15.4 million in 2014, up by 22%.
