3 more Egyptians die during pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia

The death toll of Egyptian pilgrims during this year’s hajj season has reached 15

Three more Egyptian pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia, with the death toll of Egyptian pilgrims reaching 15 on Thursday.

The pilgrims died due to natural causes, including heat exhaustion and high blood pressure.

As of late August, six Egyptians had died in during pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

All of the deceased have been seniors between the ages of 60 and 80 so far, and they all died on their way to nearby hospitals. The citizens were from different pilgrimage groups.

There are ongoing awareness campaigns during pilgrimage to ensure Egyptians’ safety from infectious diseases, deputy health minister Ali Hegazy said in a statement

The ministry also stated that the capacity of medicines and essential equipment had been reviewed to ensure that it would be sufficient for the all of those going on pilgrimage this year.

Approximately 86,000 Egyptian pilgrims have travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, which will officially start on Saturday, according to state run Al-Ahram newspaper.
