4.5% increase in number of jetties in Damietta port in July

Inbound container ships decline by 3,450, compared to 2015


The Damietta Port Authority has recorded a growth of 4.5% in the number of jetties in the port, compared to the same month in 2015. The number of ships received by the port reached 209 in July 2016, compared to 100 in July 2015, according to a report issued by the authority.

The number of liquid bulk ships received by the port has significantly decreased by 30%, where the port received seven dry bulk ships in July 2016, compared to 10 ships in July 2015. Ships of a special nature received by the port reached eight in July 2016, compared to three in July 2015, according to the report.

Dry bulk ships received by the port have increased from 47 in July 2015 to 49 in July 2016, with a 4.3% increase. On the other hand, the number of ships of traditional general goods has gone up by 2.3% in July. Moreover, the number of container ships increased from 94 in July 2015 to 100 in July 2016, with a 6.4% increase.

The report showed a 5.4% decline in the volume of cargo handled by the port in July 2016, compared to the same period last year. In July 2015, the recorded volume reached 25.2m tonnes, while this year the port recorded 23.5m tonnes.

The report added that the total number of outbound container ships through the port reached 31,664 in July 2016, compared to 32,247 ships during the same period in 2015, with a decline of 583 ships.

According to the report, the total number of inbound container ships declined from 30,239 ships in July 2015 to 26,789 ships in July 2016, witnessing a significant decline of 3,450 ships.
