Heinz products meet health, safety standards: Industry and Trade Ministry

The ministry’s report said that there were no irregularities in the factory’s production cycle

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Sunday that the products of Heinz Egypt meet the specified quality standards for health and safety requirements.

A press release by the ministry stated that Minister Tarek Kabil received a detailed report on the results from the Industrial Control Authority’s (ICA) visit to the company.

The release quoted results of analysed samples that confirm the products fit the standard specifications.

Recent reports in the press circulated news that Heinz Egypt products have violated quality standards and are harmful to consume.

However, the ICA’s report refuted the news.

Such reports about Heinz Egypt surfaced after security forces raided the company’s branch and claimed they had used rotten food during production. Security forces also arrested the company’s manager.

The company denied the accusation, claiming that the products that were seized were not intended for distribution.

On 5 December, the prosecution’s office in 6th of October City said it would hold the manager in custody for five days pending investigations. No news regarding his current situation has been made public.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s press release stressed that the ICA has in its possession several reports on the company’s production from previous visits to the factory. These reports, however, concerned the results of final products and placing a production date on final products. The ministry noted that immediate responses were taken to address the content of such reports.

The press release stated that the ICA inspectors ensured the factory is committed to address any previous concerns.

Moreover, a marked improvement in the methods of storage was also noted, according to the press release.
