The meeting discussed the importance of African media in increasing awareness, says Presidency spokesperson

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Sunday in the presidential palace of Ittihadia a delegation of African journalists and media people representing 25 African states. The delegation was on an official visit to Egypt to participate in a workshop organised by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development [EAPA], according to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency.

The presidency official spokesperson Alaa Yousef stated that Al-Sisi stressed during the meeting the importance of the role African media plays, which aims to increase awareness among the continent’s citizens.

“President Al-Sisi asserted during the meeting that Egypt is adopting open policies towards all African countries, based on non-interference in these states’ internal affairs and respecting their sovereignty,” the statement read.

Al-Sisi further noted that Egypt is currently keen on supporting the comprehensive development of African countries and fostering the societal and economic development to the continent’s people, according to the statement.

The meeting also touched on topics such as terrorism, on which Al-Sisi stressed that Egypt considers it a tool used to achieve and further political goals and does not reflect Islam or any other religion.

Moreover, Al-Sisi said that the cooperation between Egypt and the Nile basin countries should be based on turning the Nile River to a tool for development and construction.
