Court decides to adjourn exam leakage trial to 29 March

The defendants’ list includes high-ranking officials of a state-run printing house

The Cairo Criminal Court decided on Sunday to adjourn the first trial of defendants in the secondary stage exam leakage incident to 29 March in order to hear eyewitnesses’ testimonies. The decision to adjourn the trial was taken during a session that only lasted five minutes.

The case dates back to June 2016 when the secondary stage exams had been leaked through several social media outlets and were circulated by a number of students who had obtained printed copies of the exams.

In December 2016, following the incident, Egypt’s Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek referred a number of high-ranking officials, who worked in printing houses affiliated to the Ministry of Education, for investigation.

The officials were referred to the prosecution along with some members of their families to investigate their participation in leaking the papers. The Cairo Criminal Court is now trying them over charges of receiving bribes in return for leaking the exam questions and answers.
