Trial of State Council official accused in “biggest bribery case” postponed to 13 May

The trial was postponed for an additional review of the case documents

On Sunday, the Cairo Criminal Court postponed to 13 May the trial of Gamal El-Laban, procurement official at the State Council, along with two other defendants accused in a bribery case—known in the media as the “biggest bribery case”—for an additional review of the case documents.

This was the first trial case for the defendants.

The official and the two others are facing charges of receiving bribes in the form of large sums of money and gold.

El-Laban was arrested from his residence in December, after the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) searched it.

During the search, the ACA seized EGP 24m, $4m, €2m, and SAR 1m, along with gold, vehicles, and real estate units.

The prosecution asserted that El-Laban had received the money and assets through bribes.
