Indian Mahindra opens office in Cairo, first in North Africa

The new office will represent North Africa and is considered the fourth on the African continent

The Indian car company Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., a part of the Mahindra Group worth $19bn, has recently inaugurated an office in Cairo, which is also its first in North Africa and the fourth in all of Africa. The new office will oversee all of Mahindra’s businesses in North Africa, including automotive and farm equipment, power generators, construction equipment, and agribusiness.

The office was inaugurated in the presence of several Mahindra officials, including Arvind Mathew, chief of international operations (IO), Ashok Thakur, head of IO-Africa Business, Bobby Salwan, zonal head for North Africa, and the entire team of Mahindra officials, along with the channel partners from the North African countries of Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt.

“Mahindra has a strong network in Africa, and this new office will further consolidate our presence in Egypt. We have appointed Bobby Salwan as the zonal head for North Africa operations, along with an on-ground team to establish a stronger local connection. Further, we plan to leverage the local talent in the country, which will enable us to understand our customers better,” said Arvind Mathew, chief of international operations of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

“Mahindra is a global brand with an endeavor to provide localised solutions. Currently, Mahindra vehicles and tractors are being locally assembled in Tunisia and Algeria, with annual capacities of 3,600 and 5,000 units, respectively. We plan to follow a similar strategy in Egypt, to further strengthen our commitment towards Africa,” added Mathew.
