Canadian Food Inspection allows Egyptian grapes into Canadian market

Major grape exporters delegation to visit Canada in February to promote next grape season, says minister

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) allowed the entry of fresh Egyptian grapes to the Canadian market in accordance with the criteria and conditions agreed upon with the Egyptian Central Administration of Egypt’s Agricultural Quarantine Authority and the Export Council of Agricultural Crops, according to Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil.

Kabil said that that the CFIA has adopted the system established by the Egyptian side to control the production and packaging of exported grapes.

The minister added that the agreement came after more than a year of negotiations, pointing out that the Canadian market is one of the largest markets receiving fresh grapes and the seventh largest importer of grapes in the world, which will contribute significantly to increasing Egyptian exports to this large market as Canada imported about $430m worth of grapes in 2016.

“A mission of major grape exporters is currently being arranged to visit Canada and meet with major retail chains in February 2018 to promote the next grape season,” the minister said.
