Head of the Egyptian Parliament’s human rights committee, Alaa Abed, met on Friday, at the Egyptian Embassy in London, with the family of Egyptian student Mariam Moustafa—who was died due to injuries sustained in an assault in Nottingham—to discuss the updates of the case, according to state media.

The meeting was held in the presence of Nasser Kamel, Egyptian ambassador to the UK, Egyptian General Consul in London Alaa Youssef, and the Italian consul in London.

Moustafa, 18, an Egyptian national who was born in Rome, died as a result of her injuries two weeks ago, after slipping into a coma for about 24 days following an assault outside a shopping mall in the city of Nottingham on 20 February.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed updates of the investigations into her death being carried out by the London Metropolitan Police, as well as procedures for transferring Moustafa’s corpse to Egypt as soon as possible.

Abed said the parliamentary delegation meetings were held in coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and contributed to accelerating the procedures of the case. He added that the Egyptian Embassy in London is closely following the investigations.

He further added that the delegation will write a report on its meetings with British officials. The report will be submitted to Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal for review in the upcoming parliamentary session.
