Pope Tawadros II leads Easter mass at Abbassia Cathedral

Christians are gearing up to celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead

Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II led on Saturday the Easter mass (Mass of Resurrection) at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbassia district of Cairo, with a large attendance of bishops and officials, including ministers and parliament members, to mark Christians’ most important festival that recalls Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection.

Moreover, the head of the Evangelical community in Egypt, Reverend Andre Zaki, led the Mass of Resurrection at Heliopolis Evangelical Church, with the participation of Egyptian officials, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdul Aal, former Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, and other official figures.

Pope Tawadros also led the Good Friday services at the Monastery of Saint Pishoy in Wadi El Natrun, along with priests, monks, and worshipers.

Egyptian Christians across the country are excitedly gathering Saturday in churches with their families, friends, and beloved ones to celebrate Easter or Resurrection Sunday.

Meanwhile, thousands of Christians around the world headed Saturday to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem to mark Holy and Great Saturday, the day preceding Easter, to celebrate their greatest feast: Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, and to replace sorrow with joy.

Emphasising on the brotherly relations between Egyptian Muslims and Christians, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayyeb congratulated Pope Tawadros II and Egyptian Christians on Easter, saying in a statement that the strong national bond between both sides is an example of tolerance and coexistence.
