The main decision-making committee of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) decided to accept three technical offers, out of four in total, that bid in a global tender to design and restore the Raml tram station in Alexandria.
The NAT accepted an offer from an alliance that includes the French company SYSTRA, Egis Rail, ACE Moharram Bakhoum, and PROJAC, scoring 92.5%.
The second acceptable alliance included SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas in partnership with Setec-Group and Khatib & Alami, which scored 89%.
The third accepted alliance included Artelia Ville & Transport SAS with INGEROP and Menarail. The alliance’s bid scored 81%.
The fourth alliance, which was turned down, included TPF Getinsa Euroestudios, AREP, and Bureau Egyptien de Conseils Techniques.
That alliance received a score of 72%, which was below the 75% benchmark for acceptance.
The project will be financed by the French Development Agency. The initial tender invited six alliances to submit their offers.
The rehabilitation includes 28 stations extending 13.7 km from Victoria to Raml station.
The items of the tender include constructions, energy supply, ticket machines, signalling system, communications network, railway, and mobile units.
Last year, the minister of transport, Hesham Arafat, announced the government’s approval to renovate the Raml tram station in Alexandria to cope with the growing population, while reducing the journey time down to 30 minutes only, in addition to upgrading the electric signalling for a capacity of 350,000 passengers per day, at a cost of €360m.
