Uber, Misr El Kheir cooperate to repay debtors’ dues

Company to support reunion of 45,000 families before Eid Al-Fitr

Uber Egypt announced a partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation to contribute to the latter’s debt repayment charity this Ramadan. Donations will be made through the application; for every ride taken through the app, Uber will donate to support Misr El Kheir’s target to release 45,000 debtors from jail this month.

The initiative, also known as Gharmeen Redemption, is one of Misr El Kheir’s most popular. Through the partnership, debts will be repaid to help get debtors out of jail.

Abdellatif Waked, general manager at Uber Egypt, commented on the initiative saying it is important for Uber to play an active role in giving back to the cities and communities the company serves, especially during the month of Ramadan.

“This year, through our partnership with Misr El Kheir, we are using the Uber technology to raise awareness about the debt repayment cause, and to pay the debts on behalf of the gharimaat (debtors), so that they can celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with their families,” he added.

The Ramadan initiative falls under the UberGiving umbrella—Uber’s annual programme to give back to the community by connecting to a charity initiative through its technology.

During Ramadan 2017, Uber partnered with the Egyptian Food Bank to help break the fast of those in need every day during the holy month.
