Industry minister invites Sudanese counterpart to visit Egypt

Two countries prepare for joint Egyptian-Sudanese trade committee meetings

New Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar has invited his Sudanese counterpart Hatem Al-Ser Ali, to visit Egypt and hold a session of discussions, to discourse radical measures for all outstanding challenges, thus contributing to the development and enhancement of joint cooperation in all fields and on various levels.

Nassar said that there is a need to hold more meetings between officials of the two countries, in order to put forward views and remove any obstacles and launch new joint projects, whereby to transfer cooperation means to new levels of integration, based on the common interest of Egypt and Sudan.

Furtherly, he pointed out that the next phase will witness a qualitative leap in joint trade and investment relations between Egypt and Sudan through maximising the utilisation of the available resources in both countries, as well as overcoming all obstacles that hinder the flow of trade and investment between them.

Nassar noted that the two sides are preparing to hold meetings of joint Egyptian-Sudanese trade committee, at the level of experts to discuss all the challenges and problems, that impede the flow of trade between the two countries.

In a telephone call received by the Egyptian minister from his Sudanese counterpart, Al-Ser Ali, to congratulate him on assuming the ministerial post in the new government, whereby Nassar pointed out that they discussed overall economic relations between the two countries.

The two ministers stressed the importance of speeding up removal of obstacles and challenges, that negatively affect the movement of intra-trade and flow of capital.

For his part, Al-Ser Ali affirmed the Sudanese government’s commitment to complete the implementation of all agreements and protocols signed with Egypt.

Al-Ser Ali said that his country is keen on developing joint trade and investment relations with its sister country, Egypt, pointing out that the Sudanese prime minister gave directions to resolve all problems and seek to achieve a breakthrough in the level of economic relations between the two sisterly countries.

The value of trade exchange between Egypt and Sudan during the months of January and February increased by 18.9% to reach $104.1m, compared to $84.4m, during the same period of 2017 and increased during February by 29.3% to reach EGP 61.8m, compared to $43.7m, during the same month of last year, according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The CAPMAS noted that Sudan came in the first place of receiving Egyptian exports with value of EGP 5.6bn in 2016 compared to EGP 4.2bn in 2015, an increase of 33.9%.

Further, the volume of Egyptian investments in Sudan registered about $2.3bn, with a number of projects up to 273 projects, according to the Sudanese Minister of Investment in July 2016.
