41% increase in Egypt’s exports to Russia: trade minister

42.5% increase in exports of vegetables and fruit, 366% increase in exports of household appliances

Egyptian exports to Russia increased by 41% to reach $284m during the first four months of this year compared to $201m during the same period in 2017, according to Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar.

Nassar said that the large increase in Egyptian commodity exports to the Russian market during the current period contributed to reducing the trade deficit between the two countries, which is in favour of the Russian side because Egypt imported a number of strategic goods from Russia, especially wheat.

For his part, the head of the Egyptian Commercial Service, Ahmed Antar, said that the increase in value of Egyptian exports to the Russian market during the period from January to April this year is due to the increase of exports of vegetables and fruits by 42.5% to reach $233.7m .

Antar noted that exports of vegetables and fruit represented more than 82% of total Egyptian commodity exports to the Russian Federation markets.

He added that exports of household appliances increased by 366% to reach $10m, while exports of food products increased by 108% to register $13.7m. The exports of detergents and soap increased by 153% to record $2.5m, followed by exports of home furnishings, which increased by 81.5%, recording about $1m. Carpet exports increased by 46% to record $ 1.7m, and exports of medical industries increased by 34.6% to reach $3.5m.
