Algerian superstar Rachid Taha died on Tuesday night at the age of 59 in Paris due to a heart attack, according to AFP.
“His son, Lyes, his family, all his friends and his label Naïve, with regret and immense sadness announce the death of the artist Rachid Taha, which occurred following a cardiac arrest at his home Lilacs,” said the statement sent to AFP.
Rashid was preparing to launch his latest productions this year, an album entitled Believe.
Born in the city of Oran, Algeria, he moved to France at the age of 10 with his family. He established a band with some of his friends, but soon after he decided to go solo and created a unique genre of infusing oriental music into rock.
The beloved veteran star left his marks on the music rock scene with several hits including “Ya Rayeh Wein Mesafer” (Oh Traveler, Where Are You Going?), which reached number 11 on the French singles charts in 1998 when it was released.
The song was one of the most famous hits in his second album Diwan.
