The health affairs parliamentary committee, headed by Mohamed El Amry, announced in a statement on Monday, that a minor committee will be formed soon to review the controversial clinical trials draft law.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has objected to some articles of the draft law, namely 4, 5, 9, 11, 19, 20 and 22, previously passed by the parliament, and returned it last week for reviewal.
Earlier, the Egyptian Medical and Pharmacists’ Syndicates expressed their concern over the draft law, stressing that research and medical interventions must be conducted in accordance to international standards, to ensure the safety of Egyptian patients.
The clinical trials draft law, aimed to regulate medical research in Egypt, was approved by the parliament in May.
It sought to impose strict regulations on clinical trials conducted in hospitals, away of the ministry of health’s control, and harsh penalties on violators.
