57th ACI World Congress, 43rd ICA conference begin Friday in Cairo

400 financial market experts, senior officials from around world to attend

On Friday 26 October 2018, the 57th ACI World Congress will begin, along with the 43rd ICA Conference.

The ACI Egypt has successfully secured hosting of the 57th round of the annual international conference, ACI World Congress, after competing among 63 other countries. Egypt also triumphed in hosting the 43rd ICA conference after a competition between 13 other countries.

According to Omar Khattab, chairperson of ACI Egypt, he said that choosing Egypt to hold these two conferences is a culmination of the efforts of the Egyptian banking sector, and an international testimony to the efficiency of the banking and financial reforms.

Vice President of ACI Egypt and Organizing Committee Head, Mohamed Aly, said that ACI Egypt’s success in hosting both conferences is proof of Egypt’s economic status and weight, which qualified it to host international economic conferences. “It is also a proof of the appreciation by international institutions for the success of the economic reform programme implemented by Egypt,” added Aly.

ACI Egypt has exerted tremendous effort to succeed in hosting these conferences, where a special file has been prepared and managed by Association President, Omar Khattab, until approval to host the two conferences was confirmed, despite the fierce competition with other countries, explained the vice president. Furthermore, a committee was formed to manage all the details, including the speakers as well as the workshops, highlighted Aly.

Aly further declared that the conference will tackle several important topics, notably the future of cryptocurrency, signs warning of economic crises, and the future of emerging markets in light of the changes taking place in the world currently. He added that 400 foreign financial market experts will attend the conferences from around the world.

Meanwhile, Wael Wagih ACI Egypt Treasurer & Organising Committee Member, stated that hosting both conferences in Egypt is evidence that Egypt was able to regain its international status, which it enjoyed before January  2011.

Egypt was the second-best emerging market in the world after India, and it was time to recover its place, especially after the implementation of the economic reform programme, declared Wagih, adding further, “the success of this programme is evident from the testimony of the International Monetary Fund, and the improvement of its credit rating by international rating institutions,” elaborating that the conference will address all these developments.

According to Wagih, the conference will be attended by the sector’s figures. It will be inaugurated by the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE)Tarek Amer, in presence of the Mahmoud Mohieldin, the first vice-president of the World Bank, and Mohamed Farid, chairperson of the Egyptian Exchange.

Sir Howard John Davies, the current chairperson of the Royal Bank of Scotland and the former Director of the London School of Economics will also attend. Sir Davies teaches courses on the regulation of financial markets and central banking at the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po.

Moreover, Angelino Alfano, an Italian politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from December 2016 to June 2018 will also attend, along with Pascal Lamy, a French political consultant and businessperson.

He was the Director-General of the World Trade Organization until 1 September 2013.
