Egypt to launch digital transformation strategy in January 2019: Nassar

Egypt seeks to transfer its industrial expertise to African countries as part of partnership between country, continent, says Nassar

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Amr Nassar, stated that Egypt will launch a digital transformation initiative in the sectors of production and export next month.

Nassar added that the new initiative will focus on bridging the gap in the Egyptian industries, through providing innovative solutions to the current challenges that people face, in both the production and exports sectors, according to a press statement on Friday.

This came during a meeting with the representatives of the UN Economic Commission for North Africa during the 2018 Intra-African Trade Fair.

The minister assured that Egypt is looking forward to cooperate in this initiative with Africa, and to expand it to address other topics including the economic transformation, entrepreneurship, and the economic issues related to youth and women.

Nassar further pointed out, “Egypt is seeking to transfer its industrial expertise to the African countries as part of the partnership between the country and the continent.”

In this context, Nassar agreed with his Ugandan counterpart, Amelia Kyambadde, to increase the cooperation between the two countries.

He stated that a delegation of Egyptian investors and businesspersons will visit Uganda in the first quarter of 2019, exploring the available investment opportunities in Uganda. The minister explained that the aim of this visit is to familiarise more Egyptian investors with the Ugandan market, and to boost the economic cooperation between the two African countries.

The minister pointed out that the African Continental Free Trade Agreement will further help the bilateral trade between Egypt and Uganda.

“There are distinct opportunities for cooperation with Uganda, particularly in the areas of agroprocessing, agricultural crops, fish farms, oil and gas, real estate, infrastructure, and tourism,” he concluded.

For her part, Kyambadde stressed her country’s keenness on strengthening the economic ties with Egypt, as it is one of the main markets in the Middle East and North Africa region.
