New wharfs enter into force at SCZone

East Port Said Port receives first ship

On Tuesday, the East Port Said Port received the first cargo ship as its new wharfs entered into force. The new wharfs are managed by the Suez Canal Area Development Project (SCZone).

Mohab Mamish, the chairperson of the Suez Canal Authority, said the operation of the new wharfs came after many national export companies had submitted applications to export salt through the East Port Said Port to European markets.

Mamish added that SCZone has received the new 5-sqkm wharfs in October 2018. They were implemented by Egyptian companies and workers under the supervision of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, which has adhered to the timeline set for implementation.

He noted that the SCZone has reinforced the competitive abilities of the port to make it one of the best in the Mediterranean.

The port is classified among the 50 best ports in the world in terms of efficiency and performance as well as the capacity of cargo and vessels in the port. The SCZone seeks to improve its position and global categorisation, as the latest decisions issued mid-2018 have resulted in attracting ships and brought back international navigation lines to the port.
