Egypt condemns Mogadishu’s suicide attack

Capital's mayor was seriously injured in attack, dozens killed

Egypt has condemned the suicide attack that targeted the Somali capital Mogadishu’s mayor office last Wednesday, killing seven people and injuring six others, including state officials, according to the Somali authorities and AFP.

The unidentified bomber blew herself outside the office of Mayor Abdirahman Omar Osman who was seriously injured in the attack.

In a statement on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry voiced its support to the Somali government and people, wishing all inured speed recovery.

The ministry asserted its rejection to all forms of extremism and terrorism, expressing its support to the Somali government to maintain stability and security in the country.

The attack aimed to target James Swan, the new United Nations envoy to Somalia, but he left the office just minutes before the attack according to Somali officials.

Last week, a terrorist deadly attack carried out by a female suicide bomber and claimed by the militant Islamist Al-Shabab group, affiliated to al-Qaeda, hit the office of the mayor in Mogadishu.

Earlier this month, Somali officials said that it has executed three men allegedly belonging to Al-Shabab, after they were found guilty of taking part in the Mogadishu’s Nasa-Hablod hotel attack which killed 18 people and injured dozens others in 2017.
