World Bank, Egypt discuss air quality improvement projects

Both sides touch on cooperation in solid waste management field

Egypt’s Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Sharawi met with a delegation from the World Bank (WB) office in Egypt to discuss air quality improvement in Greater Cairo, according to a Sunday ministerial statement. The area discussed includes Cairo, Giza, and Qaliubiya governorates.

Both sides also touched on jointly implemented projects in the field of solid waste management, the statement said. It added that the technical report on pollution reduction in Cairo conducted by the WB in collaboration with Egyptian representatives was also reviewed.

The report was conducted in collaboration with representatives from several ministries, notably Local Development, Environment, Planning and Economic Development, Transport, Health and Population and International cooperation. The statement added that the governorates of Cairo, Giza and Qaliubiya, were also included in the report review.

Sharawi stressed the importance of the World Bank’s role in providing training for the joint projects with the Ministry of Local Development. He noted that the cooperation is unique and targets improving standards of living in Egypt.
