Chamber of Tourism Establishments requests support from cabinet against COVID-19 impact

The Chamber released an Excel sheet form for each tourism establishment to complete electronically, instead of doing so in person at the Chamber’s headquarters, identifying employee data. The chamber announced Monday as the deadline for receiving the employee data.


Egypt’s Chamber of Tourism Establishments is currently working on collecting data on salaries of tourism workers for submission to the cabinet. The move is part of the state’s efforts to contain the negative effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on tourism sector employees, Chairperson of the Chamber of Tourism Establishments, Adel Al-Masry, told Daily News Egypt on Sunday.

Al-Masry said that a working group had been formed with all tourist chamber chairpersons headed by the Egyptian Tourism Federation Chairperson, Ahmed Al-Wasif. Requests to support tourism establishments and their workers are to be submitted to the Egyptian government. Some measures are being studied to support the sectors affected by the COVID-19 crisis, including those working in the tourism sector.

Last Tuesday, Secretary General of the Investors Association in the Red Sea and member of the Egyptian Hotel Association (EHA) Tamer Nabil told Daily News Egypt in an exclusive, that the ministerial committee for tourism affairs will meet on Wednesday to discuss the sector’s demands.

He added that all concerned tourism sector bodies cooperated to make a list of demands that was submitted to the committee and would be discussed at the Wednesday meeting.

Among these demands, Nabil said, was that the state bears part of the tourism workers’ salaries through allocating part of the emergency fund for them.
