Egyptians explore love in the time of coronavirus via Hawaya

Hawaya enables Arab youth across the world to choose a life partner and communicate with them safely, in a technological environment that respects their traditions and culture.

As many stay at home to help curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), statistics released by matrimonial app, Hawaya, have shown an increase in the time spent by users looking for love.

Hawaya enables Arab youth across the world to choose a life partner and communicate with them safely, in a technological environment that respects their traditions and culture.

According to statistics, the app saw a 40% increase in messages sent between users since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hawaya focuses on connecting singles looking for marriage and serious relationships, with the company seeing a 25% increase in the time users spend on the app. There has also been a 50% increase in the use of the app’s “exclusive chat” feature.

This last feature lets both users temporarily communicate exclusively with each other, allowing them to get to know each other better and possibly start a relationship.

Hawaya Chairperson Sameh Salah said the loneliness increased due to the limited time available for people to have contact with other humans in light of curfew and other Covid-19 measures.

Apps such as Hawaya are more important than ever, as it gives people a sense of companionship and the opportunity to find true love.

Hawaya, which was first released in Egypt under the name Harmonica, is currently expanding to other countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Turkey.
