Health Minister briefs cabinet on Egypt’s COVID-19 situation

Egypt is currently one of Middle East countries with lowest coronavirus cases

Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed has announced that Egypt’s novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate is declining for the fifth week in a row.

She noted that her ministry has recorded 5,413 cases in the period from 11 to 17 July, and 4,360 cases in the period from 18 to 24 July.

During its weekly meeting on Wednesday, Zayed briefed the cabinet on the current situation regarding the pandemic in Egypt. She pointed to the latest figures produced by the World Health Organization (WHO), which say that Egypt is currently one of the countries in the Middle East with the lowest coronavirus cases.

The minister highlighted the need to continued precautionary measures to contain the pandemic and flatten the curve of infections. She mentioned that youth hostels allocated to accept coronavirus patients since 8 June are to be closed after all the cases there have recovered.

Zayed stressed the need to maintain social distancing during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, and wear face masks to avoid infection.

Moreover, the minister presented the latest updates regarding the possible coronavirus vaccines and the steps Egypt will take to secure its share of any potential vaccines.
