Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities has announced that the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Science and Technology in Zewail City will be included in the country’s nationwide electronic university admissions for the upcoming 2020/21 academic year.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, released on Saturday following a meeting, the university will only accept 75 students this year.

Moreover, the Faculties of Engineering and International Business Administration at the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) will also be included in the electronic admission, accepting 75 students too.

The ministry, which heads the Supreme Council of Universities, has provided details on how students can enrol at the two universities through the student’s handbook on the online admissions website. It added that those students who wish to apply for these two universities must take admission tests.

Earlier, the ministry noted that about 104,000 students have applied to take the admission tests for certain faculties at Egyptian universities for the upcoming academic year. The admissions tests, which are taking place between 8 and 20 August, with applications to take the test to be submitted via the government’s official website

The statement added that the Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Girls for Arts, Science and Education, will, for the first time, accept high school students from both the science and mathematics streams in the new academic year.

The ministry meeting also tackled the plan for applying the new hybrid education system, which will see the traditional classroom experience combined with digital courses in the 2020/21 academic year.

The meeting also discussed the cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to establish a unit for social solidarity within Egyptian universities. It also examined the necessary measures to establish seven new private universities in the Greater Cairo, Assiut, Beni Suef, Benha, Aswan, Minya, and Daqahleya governorates.

During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar expressed his appreciation and gratitude to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for his unprecedented support for Egypt’s higher education and scientific research system. This includes the President’s support for technical universities, and for the launch of a digital project at Egyptian university hospitals that will see them undergo a digital transformation into smart healthcare facilities.
