Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said met on Thursday to discuss ways to manage unexploited state assets.

They also tackled the participation of the private sector in implementing seawater desalination projects.

El Gazzar said the meeting agreed on the best ways to exploit the state’s untapped assets including, the Tahrir Complex Building and the land of the former National Party headquarters, both in downtown Cairo.

As for the private sector’s participation in seawater desalination projects, the officials said the initiative aims to maximise the use of available water resources and improve services provided to the Egyptian citizens in coastal cities.

This comes within the framework of a national strategic plan, adopted by the Ministry of Housing, in relation to rationalising consumption of drinking water and maximizing the utilisation of available water resources.

For her part, Minister Hala El-Said affirmed the keenness of her ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, on maximising the utilisation of untapped state assets and achieving the highest return on them, to increase the state’s income resources.
