Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat has met with the members of the Egyptian Military-Diplomatic Representatives abroad.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Mashat highlighted her ministry’s efforts to strengthen Egypt’s economic cooperation with other countries, as well as regional and international organisations.

She added that the Ministry of International Cooperation aims to strengthen economic diplomacy through three principles. This includes regularly organising multi-stakeholder platforms to ensure that all projects between development partners are streamlined and effectively coordinated.

The ministry has also adopted a consistent Global Partnerships Narrative, based on People&Projects&Purpose (P&P&P). It also maps ODA financing to Egypt’s application of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) for all projects with multilateral and bilateral development partners.

Minister Al-Mashat added that since the launch of the platform, her ministry has organised a number of participatory workshops with the participation of over 100 development partners and other stakeholders in multiple sectors. The focus here has been to particularly draw in participants in the health, agriculture, transportation and social protection sectors.

Through the platform, efforts have been coordinated between ministries and development partners, to reach effective development cooperation in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the SDGs.

She said that Egypt is looking to achieve an economic recovery following the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, to move forward in achieving the sustainable development goals. This requires redefining the social contract through cooperation with international development partners, countries, the private sector, civil society and academia.

The minister affirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic is a global humanitarian challenge, and that Egypt is not new to crises. She highlighted that the country has shown strong resilience in facing challenges over the past decade, pointing to the need to move forward with structural reforms.
