Egypt’s Al-Sisi to visit South Sudan on Saturday

Al-Sisi, Kiir will discuss bilateral issues and exchange views on regional stability as well as deepening South Sudan and Egypt diplomatic ties


Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is scheduled to visit South Sudan on Saturday for bilateral talks with President Salva Kiir, according to South Sudan’s Presidential Office.

“President Kiir will welcome his Egyptian counterpart President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi upon arrival at Juba International Airport tomorrow [Saturday].”

According to the South Sudanese Presidency, “The two leaders expected to hold bilateral talks which will include State Lunch. They will discuss bilateral issues and exchange views on regional stability as well as deepening South Sudan’s and Egypt diplomatic ties.

President Kiir office invited South Sudanese general public to come to Juba International Airport for “the reception ceremony of the historic visit of His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al- Sisi.”

In August,  Egypt’s Chief of General Intelligence Services (GIS), Abbas Kamel, travelled to South Sudan at the head of an Egyptian delegation on a visit to meet President Kiir and several state officials.

During the visit, Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed met with her South Sudanese counterpart, Elizabeth Achuei, to discuss the development and strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in the medical field. Zayed pledged more medical support for South Sudan to combat Hepatitis C and B viruses, and COVID-19 pandemic, under the directives of President Al-Sisi.

Kamel and Zayed were accompanied by South Sudanese officials as they inaugurated the new Egyptian Medical Center in Juba. The centre’s opening was welcomed by both citizens and officials of South Sudan.
