Egypt-Korea cooperation set out for new horizons in light of Vision 2030

The Korean ambassador to Cairo stressed that Korea will remain side by side with the Egyptian people in order to overcome the coronavirus pandemic

South Korea Ambassador to Cairo, Hong Jin-wook, affirmed that both countries succeeded in strengthening their joint cooperation over the past 25 years, and that they were preparing for a new start in their bilateral relations in the coming years.

The Ambassador’s remarks came during his speech on the occasion of the establishment of fully-equipped education facility in the Beni Suef Technological University (BST) and signing a tripartite MOU on Samsung Internship Program between Beni Suef University, Samsung Beni Suef, and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

He said that his country is open to further cooperation with Egypt in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the sustainable development goals.

He stressed that Korea will remain side by side with the Egyptian people in order to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

The Korean ambassador emphasized the importance of vocational education in achieving the rapid industrial development of Egypt, pointing out that Korea would remain a partner with Egypt in order to enhance the quality of vocational education and ensure its sustainability.

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, expressed his gratitude to all those in charge of developing the university, pointing out that Beni Suef University is the first university among the three technological universities that were established for vocational education.

He praised the level of education within the university and the support provided by South Korea, especially the modern laboratories, which amounted to 14.

He stressed the importance of the partnership with the Korean side to promote vocational education in Egypt.

In conjunction with the celebration that was held to mark the end of the equipment of the modern university for communication, information technology and mechatronic laboratories, in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency,, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed between the university, the Korean International Cooperation Agency “KOICA” and Samsung to provide internship scholarships for university students inside the company’s factories.

Kwon Choonki, the Chairperson of Samsung Beni Suef, commented “Samsung pursues the creation of comprehensive values that can contribute the sustainable society. This MOU indicates our will to grow better human resources and add social values for Egyptian Public.”

KOICA has made various efforts for quality vocational education in Egypt partnering with Ministry of Higher Education. We will work continuously with our Egyptian and international counterparts for the sustainable development of Egypt,” KOICA Country Director Oh Yeon Keum said.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Hong underlined Korea’s willingness to broaden the scope of cooperation with its strategic partner describing Korea’s current cooperation with Egypt in different fields. Abdul Ghaffar also expressed his desire to further develop the partnership with Korea in the near future.
