Delegation from southern Libya visits Cairo to discuss UN-led political talks

Visit aims to discuss efforts to support stability in Libya, combat foreign interference that aim to undermine unity and integrity of Libyan territories


A 75-member delegation from southern Libya on Tuesday arrived in Cairo for three-day visit in which it will meet several Egyptian officials over the United Nations-led political talks.

During the meetings, the Libyan delegation will review its points of view regarding the ongoing talks between the Libyan rivals. The visit also aims to discuss joint efforts to support stability in Libya, combat foreign interferences that aim to undermine the unity and integrity of Libyan territories.

The Libyan delegation includes dozens of Libyan figures from southern cities in Fezzan region, representing all segments of southern Libya.

The Egyptian committee concerned with the Libyan file will sit down with the visiting delegation to listen to its demands and study them, with the aim of pushing the political process in the country.

The visit is also expected to result in forming a committee to facilitate communication with southern Libya.

Egypt has hosted security and military talks, facilitated by United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in the city of Hurghada between delegations representing the Government of National Accord (GNC) and the Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF).

These meeting enhanced the ceasefire deal between the Libyan rivals and embraced the political track to solve the prolonged crisis, under the auspices of the United Nations. Egypt always affirms that it stands at same distance from all Libyan parties.
