Egypt reports 2.55% decrease in manufacturing and extractive industries index in October

Egypt has reported a standard number for its manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, of 96.45 in October 2020

Egypt has reported a standard number for its manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, of 96.45 during October 2020 (preliminary).

The latest manufacturing and extractive industries figures reflect a decrease of 2.55% compared to the 98.97 recorded during September 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The agency is using an updated index methodology, to use the base year 2012/2013 and the level of main industrial activity indices according to the Industrial Activity Index (ISIC Rev.4). The methodology also took into account and the monthly index for producer prices based on 2012/2013 data.

CAPMAS said that the standard number for the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, and medical devices reached 98.18 during October 2020. The figure reflected a 6.59% increase compared to September 2020, which has been attributed to increased sales.

The standard number for the manufacture of non-metallic products, namely bricks, glass, and cement, reached 83.66 during October 2020. The figure compared to September 2020, when it reached 80.74, reflecting an increase of 3.61% due to the high demand for cement.

The figures come at a time when the beverage industry reported a figure of 150.19 during October 2020, compared to September 2020, when it reached 187.49. The October figure reflected a decrease of 19.90%, due to the decline in demand during the winter season.

The index for the manufacture of chemical materials and products reached 107.84 during October 2020 compared to September 2020, where it reached 110.80. The October figure reflected a decrease of 2.67%, due to the decrease in the volume of production and the dependence on stock.
